With Riot Fest moving away from Humboldt Park and into Douglas Park this year–and specifically, this coming weekend–businesses and citizens near the new concert venue have kept the grumble-train pumping. Saint Anthony Hospital, in Lawndale, has just filed suit for $158,000 in an attempt to get concessions from Riot Fest organizers due to the proximity of the event to the hospital.
Riot Fest responded, “It is unfortunate that Saint Anthony officials are taking a festival that should be seen as a vibrant and positive addition to the community and are trying to use it for ulterior motives.”
A spokeswoman for the hospital, however, said, “Riot Fest made a substantial monetary offer for our silence and it was rejected because Riot Fest refused to address our very real patient and employee safety issues. This is about patient safety.”
With the concert this weekend, and many people ready to attend, who do you think should prevail?
